What is a Postpartum Doula?

The word "doula" is ancient Greek for a woman who serves and is now used to refer to a trained professional who "mothers the mother" in her home. A postpartum doula mothers the mother (along with other family members) during the postpartum period (the fourth trimester).

Some reasons to hire a Postpartum Doula...

  • If you don't have experience with newborns and would like to have guidance on the care of your baby.
  • If you have had prior depression or anxiety episodes, or postpartum depression and would like to have non-judgmental support.
  • If you have other children and would like help with the transition of bringing baby home.
  • If you are having multiples and need an extra set of hands.
  • Feeling isolated- adjusting from work place/ career
to being at home isn't always easy.
